Mountain Education and Development LLC (MED) is an outdoor company based in Salt Lake City, Utah. MED is dedicated to creating a community of educators, leaders, and outdoor

"Fall 2017 REMOTE MEDICINE INTERNSHIP - ECUADOR" - POSTED AUG. 2017

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This internship opportunity involves assisting two MED instructors in providing wilderness/remote medicine training in Ecuador in November, 2017. MED will be teaching an 8 day WFR in Riobamba, Ecuador to people who work in the outdoor recreation and tourism industry in Ecuador. This intern will be responsible for assisting during this WFR course by providing one-on-one instruction and feedback to students, equipment maintenance, and scenario/classroom prep. Additional teaching opportunities will be made available throughout the program based on the intern’s interest and qualifications. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in gaining hands-on experience related to the fields of experiential education, wilderness/remote medicine, and international travel.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The MED intern hired will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with MED administration to design an internship experience that is mutually beneficial to the intern and the organization. With that it mind, it is necessary that intern applicants be motivated, have personal/professional goals that complement MED, and have strong communication skills.

This internship position will also be governed by the season and MED’s existing programs. During the fall months, opportunities for office and field work are abundant. Field instruction opportunities include rock climbing and outdoor living/camping skills in the Wasatch Mountains and Moab, UT, and wilderness medicine courses in Utah. Opportunities for staff/intern trainings in the fields of rock climbing, vertical self rescue, alpine climbing, backpacking, and other outdoor living skills can be made available upon request.

Opportunities also exist to gain experience working alongside MED’s administration on topics including but not limited to: program development and evaluation, equipment management, retail sales, customer service, marketing, risk management consultations, and employee/instructor management.
