About the Course
The MED Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course makes use of lecture and practical-based learning both in and outside of the classroom.
The concepts and skills taught in this course will prepare you to prevent, identify and stabilize a diverse range of injuries and illnesses associated with recreation in remote places where adaptations to harsh environments, limited access to resources and communication, and personal/group safety must be made.
Beginning with patient assessment, this course helps establish a foundation for students to make informed decisions during emergency situations when far from definitive healthcare systems.
This course is minimally 16 hours in length. Upon fulfillment of all course requirements, the student is presented with a Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification valid for three years.
USE OF COURSE TO RECERTIFY A WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER:
If a student's Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification has been issued by MED Remote Medicine (MED) and is within the 3 year certification period, they may either participate in a MED 16 hour Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course or a MED 24 hour Wilderness First Responder Recertification (WFRR) course. Upon successful completion of either courses components, the student becomes recertified for an additional 3 years from the recertification course end date.
This course qualifies per these guidelines. WFR recertification students will be required to participate in an extra 2 hour session Saturday evening (see schedule below).
