About the Course

The MED Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course makes use of lecture and practical-based learning both in and outside of the classroom, and is geared towards students who will be working, guiding, or recreating in remote locations with others.

The concepts and skills taught in this course will prepare you to prevent, identify, and stabilize a diverse range of injuries and illnesses associated with recreation in remote places where adaptations to harsh environments, limited access to resources and communication, and personal/group safety must be made.

Beginning with patient assessment, this course will establish a strong foundation for students to make informed decisions during emergency situations when far from definitive healthcare systems.

**COVID-19 POLICY UPDATE**

MED Remote Medicine recognizes the challenges of planning in advance and confirming space in a one of our courses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The following policy updates have been added during this unprecedented time.

Enhanced Health Screening

Per standard operating procedure, all course participants will complete a comprehensive health screening at the time of registration and identify, as appropriate, past and current medical history. All participants will be contacted approximately 2 weeks prior to the start of a course and asked to complete a more directed COVID-19 symptoms questionnaire. 1 week prior to the start of a course, all participants will be required to schedule a brief phone consult with our administrative team to verbally review a similar COVID-19 symptoms questionnaire and discuss logistical considerations specific to their course. All participants will be expected to submit 1 final check in approximately 48 hours to the start of their course. Ongoing self screening is expected by all course participants and instructor team members throughout a course.

Social Distancing, Masks & Enhanced Cleaning Protocols

As possible, all course participants will make reasonable attempts to socially distant themselves throughout a course. Person to person contact is inevitable during a wilderness medicine course. For practical hands on learning simulations, participants will work in groups of 2-3 and continue to work with the same small learning "pod" for the duration of the course. Participants will be asked to wash/sanitize their hands with increased frequency throughout a course. Participants are expected to wear a 2 ply Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommended face mask covering both their mouth and nose throughout a course with this expectation required when social distancing is not possible. Instructors and course participants will work together throughout a course to clean all touch surfaces and equipment with appropriate cleaners at a heightened frequency.

Cancellations

In the event that a course is cancelled by MED Remote Medicine due to logistical challenges surrounding COVID-19, all fees minus the deposit payment amount will be refunded to all course participants. The deposit payment will remain active and useable for a future MED Remote Medicine course for up to 1 year from the original start date of the cancelled course. Attempts will be made with the entire group to reschedule an affected course as soon as deemed appropriate.

If a course participants has ongoing COVID-19 related symptoms and tests positive, they will be refunded all fees minus the deposit payment amount. The deposit payment will remain active and useable for a future MED Remote Medicine course for up to 1 year from the original start date of the cancelled course.
